Getrag falls out of Fifth

This is what's happening. I'll be cruising down the road in 5th, take my foot of the gas quickly, and the shifter jumps back and out of gear. If I slowly let off the go pedal then it stays in and all is good. 5th is the only gear it does it in, I was running mobil 1 5w-30, and just switched to 15w-40 delvac just to see if it made a difference, and it still does it. The tranny shifts into every other gear fine. Well fine for a getrag from what I've read. What do you guys think? Syncros? is it a hard fix

thanks
Justin

do you rest your hand on the shifter when cruising down the highway? it could be the pads on the shift fork being worn down and not allowing you to engage the gear 100%

I don't normally rest my hand on the shifter, but when I do it feels like some thing is almost kicking it out of gear when I let of of the gas. The tranny was rebuilt around 60K ago, and thats a little quick for the forks to wear. How tough is it to pull on of these trannies apart? Also are there any manual around on them?

I say synchros too. The only manual I know of is the section in the '93 FSM. There's a guy on Ebay who sells rebuild kits for them.

Getrags

Getrags are just as easy as any other to rebuild. I did mine last spring with out any issues. I have a hard copy of the service manual section on getrags. I will scan them and Email them to you(PM me with your Email address). You can get bearings ( I recomed Timkens) at your local bearing house or possibly at Auto Zone, they are stocking Timkens ( around here they do) They should be able to cross your bearing #'s over. I will get you those copies ASAP. If you like. As for the other hard parts try to stay away from the dealers High $$$$. I didnt need any hard parts just new brgs, so I cant tell you where I got mine.
