getrag 3rd gear issue

Recently purchased a 91.5 d350, third gear feels like you can overshift it. In other words when going fron 2nd to 3rd if I am real careful I can stick it straight in 3rd once in there it feels fine. Pulling or whatever. If I am not careful and push the shifter too far towards dash it will grind and even though be in the 3rd gear position will not be in gear. Also downshifting to 3rd is a no go, no matter how easy I try. Thanks for the help!!

I had the problem with my truck only with the 4/5 shift , I replaced the top cover(including shift forks) and now works great. My top was very worn,700,000 mi. Worked for me

i had the rool pin in the top cover shear, on the 1-2 shift fork,
easy to fix once the trans is out, if thats the problem, but mine was jumping the gate, push it into gear, then you could puch it past

3rd gear is what broke in my getrag. The teeth where the syncro engauge sheared right off the gear. I had issues with it popping out of gear for about 30,000miles before that and they just got worse and worse until it would do nothing in 3rd gear. sounds more like a top cover issue or just a trans getting loose. Probally could stand a going thru at some point.
