Getrag Noisey in 3rd and 5th
Getrag Noisey in 3rd and 5th
The 93 in my sig has at least 70k miles on the trans. The trans oil hasn't been changed too regular (not my truck). It is getting pretty noisey in 3rd and 5th. The oil isn't silver but there is a few fine metal particles. Not knowing how long it has been in there makes it hard to know if the amount of metal is serious, but I know any is not good. I suggested we pull a PTO cover and check the countershaft bearings. He didn't have time yet, but in the meantime I told him to stay out of 3rd as much as possible and 5th altogether. He doesn't have anything else to drive right now (120 mile commute lap, secondary roads mostly) Do you think I'm on the right track thinking the rear countershaft bearing is going? What is a reasonable price for a master kit and what brand / vendor? Is there a sticky or resource on the trans rebuild? He does have a FSM that came with the truck.
Thanks!
Thanks!
I'd say countershaft bearings from what you're describing. I'd get to fixing it as fast as possible. I've had one of these trannies do what you're describing before and I kept driving with it like that. When I finally got around to tearing it apart the front countershaft bearing had siezed and was spining in the case, this in turn ruined that case.
