Hey guys, I have a leak coming from my getrag 360. It's basically coming from between the transfer case and the rag. The transfer case was rebuilt so I know the seals are brand new.



It's basically leaking between the adapter and the getrag 360. Not the Adapter to the NP205.

Is there a seal here?

I was about ready to put my CAB on last night and I noticed it.

Also, can I just pull the top off? I need to replace a gasket and don't want to take the top off the getrag to find out I broke things. I'm guessing there is some forks in there and it should come off real easy.

The rear seal is number 71 in this pic and yes the top can pull off the forks will come with it

If your NAPA store is any better than ours they should have it.

gyman98 is correct. The top lifts right off. Put it in neutral before you pull it. I have assembled a few Getrags. And, I have had the best luck with no gasket under the top. Just get the mating surfaces really clean, and dry. And run a thin bead of Permatex "ultra black" around the mating surface. No gasket. Both times I tried to use a gasket, it leaked. I tried it dry once. And I tried it with Permatex gasket prep once. Fail both times. The "ultra black" never leaked.

Also, on your leak. You make it sound like your leak is between the main-case, and bearing retainer. That mating surface is in front of seal #71. I have fought that leak also. There is no gasket there. Again, Permatex "ultra black" has proven to work excellent there (do not use "Indian Head" gasket shellac there! oops). The shims that set the bearing preload are under that cover, and you need a good sealer there. I also had a hard time getting one of the bolts that retain that cover to stop leaking before. As, those holes are through holes into the main case.

Here is what it looks like between the main case, and bearing retainer:



You can see seal #71 in the retainer. Those tapped holes are through into the main case. I think! I'm actually going to have to go check that now that I start talking about it. I know I had a hard time getting one to seal once. Hmmmm? Can't remember.

Thanks mopar, I took the transfer case off and that had a big puddle inside of that. I just resealed it so I'll have to take it back apart and see what is going on. I ordered the seal from NAPA but not I don't think I will be needing it. Find out if there is a puddle on the tranny mounts! IF so I will be removing the back piece. Also, when I took the top off.. there was a roll pin sticking out, I tried to punch it back in and it would not budge. I assume this is normal?

I would think the roll pin should be flush to the inside of the fork...as you can see in the other shift fork in the pic. I can't see why it would be left out like that?

I would assume the reason you could not make it move was because the fork was not lined up with the hole in the shaft.

Ditto on the roll pin. And if you use RTV on the back plate, you need to adjust your shim pack accordingly. RTV makes a film thickness that is more than a couple thousandths. High tack is supposed to keep its film thickness less than .001", and is what I would try there, with RTV ultra on each bolt to seal the threads. I don't know if you have used High Tack much, but I have found that you have to put an even coat on both mating faces, and NOT reposition ofter they contact. Then it works great, if the can of sealant is fresh.

Looks like someone beat me to it. I punch the roll pin in farther and yup.. it jammed inside the for rod. The roll pin was way to long. In taking the top part off this tiny bearing fell out.

Any ideas where this might go? Looks like someone rebuilt this tranny and maybe lost a bearing inside the cover?

Okay no luck in finding where that small round thing goes. Should I tap the top cover for oil filling.

The fill plug on the side is pipe thread, I put a 90* fitting in mine so it pointed up with a short coupler to raise the fill level. then glued a piece of thick wire into a plug with marks to check the oil level.

I filled it with a hose and funnel routed down from under the hood.

At some point I want to connect a regular trans dip stick tube into the 90* and bend it up into the engine compartment to make it even easier to check the oil level.
