Getrag

I took it apart today found that the counter shaft bearings were bad and that the 1st-2nd syncro ring was cracked (not the brass part but the ring that the brass ring sets in) that explains why i couldn't get it to go into 1st without it grinding, and i think somebody has has this thing apart before because it has koyo japanese bearings in it, also i found out that i have a luk clutch but it still don't hold the power.

Lots of folks running with Koyo's with good luck, but to each his own. Luk clutch= Measure the disk. It's likely 12.25''. Throw it out and replace it with an original Sachs unit or a 13'' South Bend unit before you put that tranny back in.

My uncle is a powertrain engineer at american axle, and he told me when I was doing my getrag that Koyo makes the best bearings in the world.

Koyos were in mine when I took it apart a few months ago. I would bet they were stock from the factory. And I believe they are a good brand. Parr with timken I would say.

Koyo's are the only bearing you can get for the Getrag. I've found I can all of the getrag bearings locally for about the same price as a kit plus shipping from www.zbag.com. In the kit you get front and rear oil seals, front 'freeze' plug, pto and top cover gaskets. I suggest buying a bearing and synchro kit and shims from zbag. They also have good used and new parts. That 1/2 synchro assembly is not cheap, about $300 used or new.

PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you the .pdf of the Getrag part of the FSM. It's what I used to rebuild mine.
