Leaking Getrag

Hey fellas, how many running the Getrag 360 have small leaks? Mine looks like it is coming from the top cover and the tranny output seal. Seems to be worse when I overfill the Getrag by 1 quart like you should. How many have found the gaskets to replace them? How much? With almost 200k on the Getrag, that is its only problems.

BTW: I have looked at Standard Trans. site and some others. Good info, but it doesnt show where you can buy the individual gaskets.

Re:Leaking Getrag

Well, mine's a 2wd. looks like the output/yoke seal is leaking on mine. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck finding a new seal for the Getrag.

Call the guys at Standard Trans, I bought a syncro and a couple seals from them. There prices were reasonable.

I've found if you overfill them they will pump the fluid out of the breather!

Re:Leaking Getrag

My getrag is making a very peculiar noise, like a bearing bouncing around inside the top of the tranny. It still drives and runs fine, but I am pulling the tranny and taking it to the shop as soon as I return from vacation. Any body have this problem?

I've got the same noise problem with mine ....Only in 4th gear pulling at lower r.p.m.'s though. Seemed to get a whole lot louder when I added the P.O.D.'s

I'm trying to figure out if I should tare this one apart, or put in a 4500 conversion...The conversion is a good bit of money but then I would never have to worry about my Getrag again!! It might be worth it!

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Re:Leaking Getrag

Check your seal ride area (yolk) for wear also if its worn you mite need a speedy sleeve to restore the sealing area

Re:Leaking Getrag

Check for lateral slop in the output shaft when changing the rear seal. My Getrag failure started with a leak at the rear seal caused by excessive side movement at the shaft and quickly progressed to a full blown disintegration.

Re:Leaking Getrag

Mine is noisy in 4th at low RPM also. I have a feeling that because 4th gear is "direct drive" and none of the actual gears are engaged and are loose on the main shaft they are rattling against the counter shaft gears. Also, when I rebuilt it and installed a non-stock clutch disc, it had an annoying rattle at idle, supposedly due to the design of the clutch damper springs allowing the same thing at idle in neutral. Adjusting the idle to 900 got rid of it. It's still going at 266,000 (fingers crossed) Jim

Re:Leaking Getrag

MIne has got to come out, it makes the noise in all gears as soon as the truck moves, but not with the clutch dis-engaged, so I know it is in the tranny. How much does swapping to the nv whatever cost?
