Gauges Still not working correct?? been searching and now need help

Hey all,

I have been working on my '92 CTD for a few weeks and I have 2 items on the interior that I can not get to work.. ( Odometer and RPM stock POD )

I have either fixed or replaced everything else inside of the cab and all works great except:

I can not get Odometer to work..

History so far: when I got truck no gauges worked at all.. I checked and found out the speedo parts that attached to transfer case were missing so after much searching I found all those and replaced and now speedo works...
I have also pulled dash and check the little teeth on odometer backside and all are fine none broken.. I am lost.

The second gauge I can not get to work is the Stock RPM POD.. the lights work but I can not get it to work or read the RPM's any help would be great.
when I pulled dash out I checked and all wires were hooked up and the fuses are all fine.. but still no luck.. please list all places to check for both these problems...

Honestly I just want to see what kind of mileage I am getting in truck

I have never seen one of those electronic things but when I had mine all apart I noticed the pins in the instrument cluster circuit board were all round crimped type. On top of that it's a single sided PCB so there's not much contact area for the pins to the copper.

I cleaned the pins and the copper and then soldered the pins so I knew there was good contact. If you have the same situation you might try this. Be sure the pins and copper are nice and bright and use an electronic solder NOT ACID CORE.

The tachometer gets its signal from the crank position sensor. This sensor is right above (I think) the harmonic balancer on the front of the engine. Often, if a fan belt disintegrates, it will take the sensor with it! Could be a bad one too.

My tach problem turned out to be the PCM not putting out a trigger signal to the tach. I messed with this for almost three years before swapping out the PCM. It started working right as soon as I did that. Not saying this is your problem but is something to consider.

UPDATE:
I found the "crank position sensor" it is above harmonic balancer and wires were cut. so I have ordered a new one but will not be in till next week.. so I have one more thing figured out..

I also found out why the brake and anti lock lights were staying on.. the little connector that was on drivers side frame was broken.. fixed that and now those lights do not stay on anymore..

But this **** Odometer I can not get to work.. any other suggestions as to what it may be...???

I really want to get this fixed.. I have been getting some awesome mileage on truck and I have been towing about every other weekend and I want to know what I am getting for fuel mileage

If the speedo works and the odometer doesn't, the problem is in the speedo unit itself. There's a little part in there that breaks, I'll hunt around and see if I can find the info on how to fix that.

Did some hunting, found a source for the gear.

The one you want is in this post.

If the problem is not the gear, then it is a bad stepper motor. I have not found a source for that, you will have to send it to a speedo shop for repair.
