Gauge Installation Questions

Just a couple questions on what you all did with some of the
hook-ups?
I was considering tapping the 1/8'' pipe thread for the boost-gauge into the aluminum flanged 90 atop the intake manifold, will this be to hot for the autometer plastic tubeing?? has anyone did theirs this way?

Where should i install the trans temp sender? Is their a pipe plug or do I
need to tie into the tubeing fittings?

How did most of you guys wire for gauge lights?
I can probably find 12v off the lite switch, but i think i would prefer to
connect to the dimmer, just don't know what color wire to attach to.

New truck, i need to update my info.
92 std. cab 4x4, a518, 16cm, autometer gauges

As far as the boost gauge goes, there is a plug you can take out and get the boost there - it's already tapped and everything. Here's a picture of it:

I can tell you the tubing is totally fine, no issue there.

Trans temp shoudl be in the hot line going out to the cooler, it can be done with fittings (cutting the line) or I belive they sell a replacement line with a welded bung (not sure about the earlier trucks)
It's pretty easy to get a test light and probe around behind you headlight switch to find the dimmer. On the 2nd gen trucks it is brown/orange, not sure on yours.

Someone who knows more will chime in.

Thanks for all the help, just finished the job.
I Metered the gauge lighting circuit @ the fuse block and found it to be dimming as darkvader suggested. (thanks)
I also found a 3/8'' pipe bung inline attached
to one of the ATF cooling lines, their was a factory switch/sensor already installed there, so I put in a 3/8'' tee and installed my tranny temp sensor.
(I hope I got the right tubeing)
The 1/8'' boost port on the manifold, another great tip, Thanks again for all the help!

I have an aftermarket radio in mine, so I used the dimmer wire in the radio harness.

That's where the wastegate is supposed to hook up so that is the proper place for the boost gauge. I ran a 3/16 rubber line from a brass hose barb I put in the boost port then T'd it for the boost and wastegate.

The dash lights run over to both the radio and heater controls. That's where I hooked my gauge lights. I got the 12V accessory line at the radio also for the tach and pyro.

See my gallery for the dashtop mounting.

I shopped on Ebay for a WH1C. I got it for $150 but the turbo housing was toast. I wound up getting another 12cm WG housing from another DTR member and with that and my H1C and some parts from the WH1C I was able to build a good WH1C. Ebay is a crap shoot but you can get some good deals there if you're patient and careful. I still made out on the whole deal though since I resold the turbo as a core to another Ebayer.

It made all the difference in my truck. I also got a boost controller to be able to add some boost above the factory setting. It works by delaying the boost pressure to the wastegate actuator. Now it make me grin until my face hurts.

is the plug (and thus the replacement barb) a 1/8 NPT fitting? i.e. my EGT probe would've threaded into the same hole? no...I'm not installing it there, just making sure I buy the right part...
