gas to diesel conversion questions
87 D350 gas/92 D250 Diesel I want to make the 87 a diesel. First question is the gas has a 4 speed manual can I use that or do I need to use the getrag in the 92? I was thinking on switching radiator supports so the radiator mounts up correctly, will that work and is it easier? My other plan was to just switch the dashes and wiring harnesses any thoughts? Any other info would be helpful.
I would run the Getrag over the 4 speed, you will need the overdrive and the 4 speed won't like the torque.
The second two are good ideas, and the best way to do things.
Proram did what you're talking about on a '70's crew cab, you might try PM'ing him for helpful hints.

You WILL want to change out the 4spd (it won't handle the diesel), but forget the Gutbag. For about the same $'s, you can get an NV4500 (or 5600 if you want to spend a few more $'s) that will run circles around the getrag (and will still be running when the getrag is contributing iron back to the soil.)
Proram did the conversion on my '75 crewcab. To get the intercooler to fit, you do need to change the rad support. We also used the complete dash and wiring harness from the '93 donor vehicle.

When I converted mine I used the diesel rad suport. The grill will become an issue if you want to keep the '87 version. The position and the way the headlamps are mounted on the '92 is not the same as the '87.
As for the dash I only replaced the harness. The dash is the same so if you unplug every thing it will snake out fairly easy. The instrument pannel will have to be swaped though.
It's not a bad job to do. The whole conversion ('83 D-350, 440, auto to Diesel stick) was around 50hrs
