FYI ~ Heads Up.
Today, during a bit of work on a 96'ish CTD we had occasion to remove the metal intercooler pipe leading upward to the intake manifold.
We found the upstream end of the tube seriously corroded and shedding rust scale/flakes and even worse inside the pipe.
The seam was badly corroded and was flaking off fairly large particles of rust/scale. I don't think that is a good thing to "blow" into the engine/valve area.
I'm going to look at ALL my metal IC tubing this weekend to see if this happening and if it happening back downstream towards the turbo outlet...if so, it's blowing garbage into the IC and that is not so good either....

Could be the dissimular metals coupled with the static electricity created by the hot moving air. It makes the metals act like a battery and starts making something like battery acid, which eats at the joining of the 2 metals over time.
When you have two dissimilar metals coupled together, they will corrode over time. This is due to each metal having a different surface potential. One will act as a Anode, and one as a Cathode, and the Anode happens to get eaten up. Usually corrosion like this will not occur unless the two metals are electrically connected by a electrolyte solution (ie. salty water).
Solution= stainless steel piping

Mine looked OK when I had the intake elbow off to put in the water/meth nozzles. Any ideas on what could have caused it? (salty/damp environment maybe)
