Read this FYI, could save you money
I want to relate an experience just for the information, which could get real expensive for nothing. Recently I have heard a moan that sounded like I was starting to lose the bearings in the transmission when gearing down. I have noted the engine did not sound quite the same by was not sure what it was. Delivering a load to Louisville on Saturday, I checked fluids at a truck stop and notices a bad noise coming from the engine, sort of a moan and rough gear noise. Paranoid, scared ….. Yeah. At the drop point in Louisville I took some time and check all over. The sound was centered at the engine, did not sound like accessories, but sounded like it came from the fan area. I waited till 9:00 AM and took it to the Cummins dealer nearby. The service manager listened to it for some time and said that there was something in the gear train. Now desperation. I told him I had to deliver in St. Louis or lose $1000 or better getting the vans delivered. He recommended that I keep going but keep an eye on it. The problem was the steel getting in the oil. It got a little louder on the way. I drove from St. Louis down to Branson where my older son is and planned to change the oil and filter and check some more. Good thing, I removed the serpentine belt and all was quiet. It was only the tension adjuster, noting more. Drove home and $99.00 from Cummins got the pulley.

Now I could have dropped the load and had Cummins fix it. Would have broke me and lost a customer. I could easily see several thousand losses from this mistake. I have heard these pulleys go bad, never heard one like this.
I had mine replaced at 35K. If you look down at the tension adjuster and see rust on it, than get it replaced. Mine was still under warranty ;D.
Big dawg
