Fuel issues, at wits end, going to crush truck.
Went out to the truck to continue wrenching. tried to start it and nothing. didn't hear the FSS clicking as usual, so i pulled it out. Plunger was separated from the solenoid and stuck in the pump, had to yank it out with pliers. so i left it gutted and reinstalled. had to bleed injector lines and got it running again. thought "hmm, maybe that was somehow it?" took it for a test drive and same old same old. started cutting out on me after about 10-15 minutes of driving. wanted to stall out on my a few times on the way home, had to keep the RPM's up a bit to keep it from stalling at stop lights. limped it home and now contemplating pulling the pump off.
motor has less than 150k on it.
Mileage on an engine has absolutely nothing to do with wether or not an injection pump could fail. Keep in mind that engine is 25 years old and if the pump is original to the engine it's done well.
Even if the truck odometer it came from read 150,000 miles, unless you know the trucks complete history from rolling off the assembly line chances are more likley than not that the odometer either quit working, works sometimes, has been replaced at least once, or who knows is out of a ford truck.
I guess what I am getting at is if your timing hasn't been compromised your pump is in need of repair.

It's not going to be timing related anyways. If it were timing related the problem wouldn't come and go like it does.
He's either sucking air or has an injection issue. And he did mention his fuel pressure maintains fine and he ran a hose from the lift pump to a bucket of fuel too so it stands to reason that it's not likely a supply problem
You are right that mileage often doesn't necessarily tell the whole story but it is still helpful to know.
the VE44 is pretty well known to be bad if it runs semi ok until everything is warmed up and then starts giving troubles like he is experiencing.
