Fuel Filter ?'s

Hey all,

So now that I have time to wait/find my water in fuel sensor, I have a few quesitons;

1) What is the little o-ring that Baldwin gives you with the filter?

2) does Napa stock these sensor's? Anyone know where I may be able to pick one up in the Pugent Sound (Tacoma Wa area)?

Thanks very much all...TTYL

Don't know which filter you're using but it is probly for the WIF sensor. Some of the cheapie auto parts store filters also come with the fuel heater gasket as well. I Knbow FRAM did when I still used them. I switched to the long filters in the sticky and they only come with the filter gasket.

The O-ring goes over the stub that the filter threads onto.

Unless you lose the one that is on there, there is no need to replace it.

I replaced the open-ended sensor-equipped filter in favor of the FS1221 Fleetgaurd that is about twice the size and has an integral water drain.

Longer filter = more filtering area. It flows more. If you are monitoring fuel pressure, that means you can run it longer. Mine's been in there for over a year. The only downside I can think of is that you lose the WIF light.

I don't see the point of that little gasket either - I mean, how much dirty fuel could possibly leak through the threads to the clean side?

Wanna... When the pressure drops, that means it's time to replace it? How do you know how clean it is making the fuel? Thanks for all your help..

The dirtier it gets, the better it filters. That's true of any type of filter. Of course, eventually they become such a good filter that nothing at all gets through.

I change mine when I notice that my cruising fuel pressure has dropped a couple pounds. Until then, I just drain the separator once a month.

I will just keep to the reg filter sched as I do not have the fuel gauge set up yet... Thanks again..

You got it. Water (if any) sits at the bottom so as soon as you see diesel, shut the valve again. No need to dump the whole filter. The book says to do it every fillup - but I have never found any water in there so I just do it about once a month.

Fleetgaurd FS1221
Get a real Fleetgaurd, cause I crossed that number at NAPA and I got a filter the same size as the stock one, without the hole for WIF sensor.

I got mine at the local Peterbuilt Dealer I think it was around $11.00 ea I got two. If you have a Pete dealer in your area check with them they might have to order one but make sure you get two and keep one behind the seat for just in case purposes.
