Fuel filter change. HELP

I can't get the fuel filter to spin lose out the grid heater.

I know this had been covered, can someone suggest how to lock the heater in place so I can remove the filter?

Nevermind.

There are notches on the heater grid that you can lock a screw driver against it, and then loosen the filter. Takes some finagling, but got it done.

Here is the safest and easiest way to tighten the threaded stud on the fuel heater,

I use a piece of 10-gauge sheet metal to engage the slot and tighten it like you are turning a key.

Using a screwdriver can be a real pain just trying to line up the slot and if it happen to slip off it could do some damage to the fuel heater or worse you could poke your own eye out.

This a simple tool that I keep in my tool box along with other specialty tool I have made.

Thanks fellas.
my big issue was just breaking loose from the heater grid. It wanted to come off before the filter did.

I used a screwdriver to put some pressure on the heater, while using a filter wrench to turn the filter. Couple of bruised ribs later, they broke free. Now I probably need to take the filter off, and tighten the heater like Mr. Lane suggests to avoid this I the future.

mine has a really narrow slot that 18ga would barely fit. strange

There is a tool made for this chore as detailed in this old thread:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...3/#post3339505

And drag link sockets will take up less room in your toolbox than a hunk of scrap sheet metal .
