Which fuel additive?

The ole guy's back again....

My Cummins/Dodge is a 92 model. Lately I have been hearing some of the local diesel owners ranting about fuel additives and I am totally confused. I live in NC (near Charlotte). It gets cold here, but not like up north so this question isn't centered on anti-gelling, etc., but aimed more toward making my engine, and components, run better, smoother, and last longer. The truck is only used for towing (not a daily driver) and makes 1 or 2 trips a month ranging from 250 to 1000 miles each trip. Between trips she's parked with a full tank of fuel.

I am told by some that I should be adding an additive to every tank of fuel for the purpose of lubricating the pump. injectors, etc. I would appreciate if some of you pros would throw in your 2 cents and point me in the right direction.

Also, can I get the right stuff at say: Walmart, Advance Auto, Autozone, etc.?

Advice please :-)

I use Stanadyne PF when it's cold out, and my waste motor oil (1 gallon per tank) when it's not.
