Thumbs down Fuel

has anyone experianced fuel bleeding back after turning truck off ?
Ive checked no leaks, on top, under , fuel line , lift pump, injector pump, fuel filter ! So i can only assume it is bleading back somewhere , is there a check valve somewhere?

When i go to start the truck it acts like its out of fuel !
Some times it will start ,some times i have to crack the injectors and turn the motor over to bleed the air out .then it will start and run fine ,but when i stop and turn it off it does the same thing all over again!!!

Getting tired of this real fast.

How long does it take to drain back after you shut it off?

Had something similar happen to mine, fuel lift pump was draining back. Mine would take a few hours to drain back.

bleed back

It only takes 10 to 15 min . , I fixed it the first time at my daughters school after picking her up, then drove 10 mi to next little town ,pulled in to feed store turned it off went inside to buy rabbit food (My daughter is in 4H and has rabbits) came out and it wouldnt start .cracked injectors and started again ,stopped at a friends ,turned it off for about 5 min and it started hard and a little rough ,then smothed out.
this is a pain!

There are two check valves in the lift pump that work in conjunction with the diaphram, or piston if you up graded. What is your oil level doing?

It's actually not leaking back. It's leaking air in. You probly have a crack in one of your 10 year old rubber and or metal fuel lines between the lift pump and fuel tank. Also the fitting on top the fuel tank can develop cracks, allowing air in to the system. This causes hard or no starts, until air is bleed out.

Wouldn`t it be leaking fuel if it had a crack in fuel line ?
checked all underneath all the way to tank and tank no wet spots.

It's common to have air leaks on the suction side and not see any fuel leaking. I would throw a lift pump at it first for 3 reasons: It's the original and it doesn't owe you anything, it's easier than replacing the rubber lines, and because it's only a 20 minute job and it's really cold in MI this time of year.

Bill is probably right, though.

Did you pressurize the tank to look for the leaks? If not, an air hose and some rags in the filler with a couple pounds of pressure can really help force fuel to weep out of a crack you would otherwise miss (because normally it was only letting air suck in).

Looks like ill start with a pressure test tomorrow and see where it it leads two. shure has had me stumped.
I need to get it solved before weekend is over because we have a cold blast comming in from Canida, has been pretty decant ,in the 30s every day.
Keep on sending sugestions because i`m open to all of them ,just want to try most logical first. Problem is I`m not a mecanic ,if this thing was made out of wood ive had it fixed 10 min after it happened !
When it comes to mechanics i`m dum as a rock ,fortunatelly i have logic ,and most of the time i can get by with that and a lot of hard work,

What are the odds i have dirt in the check valve from running in low fuel condition, and that causing blead back ?

If you didn't find anything leaking with the pressure test, throw a lift pump at it. You can get a knock-off for under $40 online.

Didn`t find anything ,However after sitting for two days she starts right up, thats why i`m wondering if possibly i had a piece of dirt in check valve that blew on through to fuel filter now ?
Don`t know problems usally dont correct them selves ,but at least for now this one has ????
Got me scratching my head.

Was the start after sitting for 2 days right after the pressure test? Probably primed the lift pump. Throw a new lift pump on it and see what happens.

No it sat for two days after pressure test, in pressure test didnt find any leaks or weeping, then had some Hunny does and didn`t try to start it until this afternoon. Started right up no chugging or smoking just good normal start.
thats why i~m scratching my head !
Guess i shouldnt look a gift horse in the mouth. HA! HA!
Going to have to keep an eye on it, and get back to electrical problems.
Thanks
