Front end noises-where is the source?

Lately on my W250 I hear a scraping noise everytime I enter a drive way that dips and comes up, sorta like a "V" shape. What could cause this?

Are you turned hard over? Possibly the steering stops. Is the noise in the frt or the rear. Are the frt wheel bearings loose and the rotor rubbing the backing plate.

Is your truck still running the original front springs?
If so, look at the rear shackles on the front springs to see how much clearance you have between the sping eye and the bottom of the frame rail.

Started to happen, I'm thinking, ever since I installed dual shock steering stabilizers. What I don't see, though, are scrape marks on any of the stabilizer hardware/brackets. What were you getting at on the springs? What am I checking for in clearances and what is spec?

I do not recall the exact measurement I had before I installed new front leaf springs, but it was less than 3/8" and when drove the truck up a drive way or bump at an angle the truck would make a metal on metal noise followed by a pop. Ever since I installed new springs with a 2.5" lift I have not heard the noise and there is probably close to 1" clearence between the top of the spring eye and the bottom of the frame rail at the rear shackle.

You may also check for cowl cracks, I just discovered I have them after hearing a metal scraping noise when turning on an angle.

Good luck,
Michael

stops

If you are making a hard turn it could be the stering stops . If this is the case just put .5 cents worth of grease on them and that will cure it. Good luck.

Big Ragu Deisel Dawg started to hit on the problem. Check your shackle bushings. Mine made the same noise. Until I replaced the shackle bushings.

Angel, Charlie, Dawg, and 92...Thanks for all the advice. I will inspect and do the cheapest things 1st like the grease and so forth. Since we are on a partial subject on bushings, the prevous owner handed me a box full of new bushings (kit) for the entire truck. Never done bushing swaps before. Where would they get swapped at, and are they a remove and replace thing? No dangers that I should know about? What about preparatory work like jacking up the truck and chocking the rear tires...are those required to do to swap bushings out? Are you supposed to insert grease inside the bushings before you slide the bolts through? Help, coach!
