Front drive shaft question

I have a 93 w250. Upon inspection I found the double u joint or cardan joint way too loose. It looks like the center pivot ball is shot. I see there are u joints and a ball kit available for these. I have never been into one of these before. Are these easy to rebuild?

That type of shaft has a cv joint. They are a ***** to do, I send mine to a drive shaft shop. Then it's done.

It isn't too bad to do. I rebuilt mine a couple years ago.

IIRC it comes apart opposite of the way you think it does.....

Use a pointed punch to reference mark the original locations of the mating pieces before dismantling it if you decide on doing it yourself.

Whenever I get joints put in a shaft I just give it to my local driveline shop and have them put em in. I hate doing U-joints.

Like ofc said it isn't that hard. The thing is is if the socket for the ball is shot you need another drive shaft because that is what helps keep it tight and aligned

I have heard a persom can put 1410 yokes on the front axle and T/case front output, and build a normal front driveshaft without the c/v end on the driveline. I think this would work if you were not lifted high in the front. I am concidering this since my c/v is vibrating hardcore in 4x4. Plus getting maching yokes front/rear for easy trail repair.
Anyone else done this?? or heard of this???

I have looked at a few sites where the units have been rebuilt. It looks like if the ball and socket holder piece is in good shape the thing can be serviced. Im gona dive in soon. rockauto and napa among others have the pieces. By trade I work on much bigger stuff. These are kind of teeny but fun. I will let you know what I find...

Yes Mieser has done this.

He said there are no vibes.

But the problem is the Operating angles are somewhere in the vicinity of 13 degrees difference between front output and front axle yoke. Normal U joints need to have parallel yokes.... Factory setup is with CV and Chrysler has clocked our D60F to point the pinion straight at the T-Case stock. I put a '90 D60F under my '72 with Divorced NP205 and the lengthened / rebuilt stock CV is works really nice...

Mine required cutting and rewelding to replace the ball.
