Front Drive Shaft/Axle Question
So I started the front drive shaft rebuild on my truck and quickly realized that something isn't right. The front yoke appears to be from a W150 as the W250 joint just ins't going to fit in the yoke I have. So with that said I'm starting to question if the front axle is actually a D60 or maybe one from a half ton. How can I differentiate between the 1/2 ton and 3/4 axles? Furthermore is it possible that someone used a half ton yoke on a 3/4 axle so they could cheap out on a driveshaft repair/replacement?

ok I found the stampings
18084 610342-1RC
From what I can find this is a CHRY_61_FRONT_A(TAB). So that leaves me with the question as if the yoke from a 44 will fit the pinion gear of a 60??

I don't know, but it might. I had this same problem with my transfer case. I bought a reman unit on the web and when I got it, it had a too small yoke on it and the joint did not fit. Fortunately I still had my old case and just switched them. If a smaller yoke fits on the TC, then it would not surprise me that the same is true for the axle. Are you sure the u-joint is correct?...Mark

Yeah I had several of the same joints pulled off the shelf and they were all too large. Oh well I'll just use the 1/2 ton joint and call it a day.

Chances are that your front driveshaft was from a truck with the Heavy Duty front yoke/driveshaft.
There are 2 OEM yokes on the D-60 in a 1990 Dodge.
The standard one is a 7260, which is the smaller version.
The optional heavy duty yoke is a 7290, which is a wider yoke.
The HD yoke is a fairly uncommon yoke and was NOT offered on the Dana 44.
FYI, the 7290 yoke, as used on the Dana 60 front axles, was standard on 1994-2002 Dodge trucks with the Dana 60 front axle, and will interchange onto the 1st gens.
