Front brake question

Does anybody know where the rubberband looking things go in the disk brake hardware kit? The FSM makes a vague reference to the going on the adapter that holds the caliper but no pictures or specifics. The truck is a 1992 D250. Below is a link, thank you

Both my '89 and '93 factory service manuals show them being sandwiched between the brake shoe retaining plates and the caliper mounting bracket in assembly drawings on both 2 and 4 wheel drive models. However the written description for assembly omits any mention of them in both cases. I've done hundreds of brake jobs over the years and have never used them and I've haven't had any problems resulting from their omission.

Thanks 85crewcabbie, thats where I put them before, but like you said, can't figure out why their there. I don't remember how I figured out where they went last few times I did brakes. I wanted to confirm where I was putting them and my FSM barely made mention of them. I like to make sure it's done right, so thanks again. Maybe someone knows what their for?

They are supposed to wrap around the caliper and caliper mount to keep the sliding surfaces clean.

Due to heat they will not last long.

Thanks, that does seem to make more sense.
