Question Front Axle Brake Line ???

Truck in question is a 1990 W250.

The RIGHT-FRONT rigid brake-line sprung a leak; this is the rigid brake line that follows along the front axle from the right-side connection with the flex-line to the divider block located about axle center.

I am having no success finding this brake line listed on any of the common online parts sources.

Is a direct replacement for this line available or am I going to have to just buy a length of line and make the bends myself ?

If I have to just buy generic replacement line, what diameter is the line and what size are the two end fittings ?

Thanks for reading.

99% sure it's 3/16 inch tube readily available at any parts store. What I do is take the line off. To To the parts house and match it up. Sometimes it's too long, so I'll cut it to length, bend it by hand , and re double flare the cut end with my double flaring tool, which I purchased at the parts store.

A good tip for removing old rusted tubing is to cut the tube off at the end and use a 6 point socket. Sometimes a little heat too. I'd put new hoses in, as they're really inexpensive now

Thanks; I might not have ever thought to do that.

Its 3/16's tube size. Its is N/A threw after market

Your lucky its the right side. The left side has a 180 degree bend before the hose connection. That one is fun without a compact bender.

On 3/16's tube I just bend by hand except that right side 180 turn. I have a bender that can do it.

Thanks for confirming the tubing size.

I actually have a bunch of various pre-made sections of brake-line, plus a couple rolls of tubing, around here somewhere within these numerous out-buildings, from when I built a couple of livestock trailers; the thing is though, NCIS with a search warrant couldn't find that stuff right now, but I will stumble right across just what I need after I have already went to town and bought it again; does that sound familiar to anyone ?

Yes.

There is a reason that it took me a couple decades to realize that each and every year I need to spend a day or two cleaning out / organizing and going through everything both in my little shop, and my box truck. I find all kinds of stuff that I didn't know I had, or knew I had, but couldn't find, so I went out and bought another.

Try the nickel copper brake line, although more money, it bends so easy and forms well.

For what it is worth, new brake line is installed.

It is most definitely 3/16

Standard pre-made lengths at NAPA must be in ten inch increments; they had 30-inch, 40-inch, 50-inch, etc.

The best I could measure, the old line was about 41-inches; the NAPA guy measured it to be about 39-1/2.

They were out of 40-inch, so he gave me two 20s and a splice-joint for the same price as a 40.

The tubing was green and he said it had some sort of copper coating that made it much easier to work with.

I managed to make the new line slightly resemble the original and got it all connected up, with it tucked neatly under the little fold-over metal tabs, and no big excess loops.

It appears that a standard 40-inch section is about as close as one could ask for.

Thanks for everyone's input and advice.

That green coating is Teflon. It helps in the rust belt.

I know you got it all fixed up, but wanted to throw this out there. I was browsing LMC this morning and see they now offer a full hard brake line kit.

I like that stuff. Very user friendly.

I looked for the armored stuff with the coils around it but couldn't find any back then.

Sounds like the storm dumped on youall Bearkiller? We only got a dusting up here.

We got eighteen inches accumulation on top of the four inches we already had; I have had to shovel my way through every gate and door, just to be able to squeeze through so I could feed.

This is probably the biggest snow we have had since the 1970s when it snowed like this almost daily for weeks.

At least it didn't get hardly so cold as predicted; my outside thermometer says our overnight low was 4* American
