First real towing experience
First real towing experience
I had my first real towing experience this weekend. I helped a buddy of mine go transport a toyota pickup only about 30 miles. It was a little tough keeping up with traffic on the hills, felt like i was bending the ol' foot feed to get all i could and was just barely holding 60mph. Heres a picture right after we loaded it on the trailer.

p.s. Has anyone ever tried renting a car transport trailer from U-haul? Talk about a 3rd degree they give you about your tow vehicle.

Renting anything from U-Haul can be a nightmare if you go to a dealer instead of a company store. They may have a few good dealers, but they sure have some bad ones out there.
yup whenever I rented in the past from them and they ask what vehicle i will using to tow i say 1 ton dodge diesel.. they say oh ok that is great..
then when the guy out back walks outside and see's my truck he says that is not a 1 ton and I say "YES IT IS".. in the 90's these were classified as 1 ton's..
the guys have never questioned me after i say that.. i hook up and leave
oh and to only hit 60mph you need to do some tweaking... I can pull 80 if I want.. I do not do that but I can and have once just to see if i could get it up to speed.
oh and I am pulling a 5500lb Jeep XJ on a 2000lb trailer

sounds a little slow. I towed an eagle talon with a tow dolly for about 250 miles like it was not there at 70mph hwy speeds with more if i needed it. I think maybe that uhail trailer was messed up to dragg you down that much. My gauges also showed maybe a little more egt and boost than empty. Your truck should have towed that load better IMO.
