Fan Clutch ?s
Look at almost any cheap aftermarket flex fan. they are riveted aluminum blades and have a tendency to come apart. Years ago I went on a call where a kid was leaning over his Camaro, with a fresh engine, working the throttle, when the fan came off and laid his chest wide open. It was my first (of many) fatal calls. Mark

aftermarket seen them all the time.
Bearkiller, you mentioned in your post wanting to use dual electric fans. Did you see the post a while back where one of our members used an electric fan from a Ford Taurus? From what I read it worked quite well. I think there is a sticky on it not sure. The whole set up from a salvage yard cost was very minimal. I want to try this on my truck when I get the engine back in.

Alas, alas, the Taurus fan is some two inches thicker that the space I have.
I tried it from several different angles, but just can't squeeze it in there.
One (or two) might work fine on the wife's truck that is actually a Dodge/Cummins.
I intend to find out as soon as I get time.
OK! I forgot you had Fords.
Any way,I know you will figure something out. I was up in your neck of the woods a few weeks ago, One of these days when I am driving through there I would like to stop in and meet you.Trouble is I am always pressed for time when I head your way!!

I have a 2nd gen. fan from a 2001 and I ordered an oem clutch for a 2001 that I'm hoping will be an improvement. I noticed that the 2nd gen. fan has a more aggressive pitch then my stock fan. Ive installed two new clutchs from carquest and niether one was any good,
never heard either kick in when towing and my truck was getting pretty hot. I tried the Derale dual shrouded electric 5000 cfm fans, my stock fan with the worn out clutch cooled better.

Let me know when you are gonna be close and we will do lunch or something.
I keep reading all this stuff about the 1st Gen. fans having aluminum blades.
I just went out and put a magnet to the blades on several 1st Gen.s sitting in the yard, a few spare engines sitting on pallets, and several extra 1st Gen. fans hanging on nails on the shop wall.
These trucks/engines/fans range from 1989 non-I/C to 1993 I/C.
The magnet stuck to every last one of the blades and also all the centers; I didn't run across an aluminum one in the bunch.
What gives ???

In your shoes I'd be tempted to put an electric in front on the condensor( or perhaps two of them ). All the FWD cars I've had turned on the fans with the AC...

That is definitely in the plans; I have just been waiting to find a couple pushers at one of the swap-meets.
I have several various pullers and read somewhere that all necessary to make a puller into a pusher was to flip the blades over and reverse the wires.
As soon as I get a little time, I intend to see if that be the case.
Thanks.
