Fan Cluck removal tool?

Im taking the timing cover off and replacing the seal and gaskets. Ive tore right into the middle of this thing and its kinda my first rodeo at this but I went to Orielly Auto Parts and the dude gave me the fan clutch special tool. he said it is for fords, dodge, and chevy and it would worrk on a 93, scept they dont work, the wrenches to get that big nut in the middle off are all to big. Where do you go to get the proper fan clutch tool to take it off. Any helps appriciated.

I had the same problem

I had the same issue. I was unable to get that nut off.

What you can do instead is remove the four bolts that hold the entire fan/clutch assembly to the front of the block. It comes off real easy.

If I recall correctly, you need a 1/2 inch wrench to remove them.

Good luck!

The big nut that holds the fan assembly to the pulley is 36mm, reverse thread.

You are taking care of the KDP (Killer Dowel Pin)while you're in there, correct? Look in the sticky on how to accomplish this. It is a must do, especially since you are in there.

Thats what I did when I killed my KDP. Seemed to be easier than dealing with special tools, reverse threading and what not...

Also, you might want to see about cheacking/replacing the large bearing the whole fan rides on.

Mine wasnt even whining or squeaking but when I pulled it off it had some play.

I had to get the bearing from Dodge....it was MSRP or $198 but my Dad knew the guy at the counter so we got it for about $147. Lucky us.

just a heads up.

if you need the part number let me know and I should have the box somewhere still and Ill post it for you...

Same here also. The one bolt is a bit tough to get to but that was far easier than messing around with the fan.
