Ever have that feeling something in your rear end is not quite right?
So my 1st gen-ish Ramcharger was abanging and clanging wenever the driveline was slack. When I Swapped in the 91.5 ctd, 518, 205, and d60 front I used the d60 rear that had been in my crew when it was a gasser because it was the only rear I had with the right ratios.
Most people I talked to said the d60 rear would hold up to the torque. Well...
Check out the cross shaft.
You can see the sheered-off roll pin and the chunks missing from the shaft where it would hit the pinion gear.
The shaft has been floating back and forth about an inch. The only thing that kept it from coming all the way out was when it came around and hit the pinion.
Kind of glad I am not in a ditch somewhere wondering why my rear end locked up.
I replaced the whole unit with a d70 from an early first gen with a freshly rebuilt power-lok and 35 spline axles.

Huh? Do you suppose those numbers on the ring gear are a build date. The axle came out of a 1977 crewcab. If so, today is the ring gear's 35th birthday. happy birthday ring gear.

Yeah, I new the title would raise some eyebrows.heehee.
I don't know what caused it, but I am really digging the limited slip I have in the truck now. Especiall with the 8 inches of snow we got on the second day of spring.
