Binding feeling from rear end?

Hi Gents,

In my 03 2500 while backing up I notice a binding feeling (you can only feel this not hear it) and even more pronounced if turning. I also sometimes notice this when going forward from a dead stop only. And again definitely more noticeable when turning or if towing a light load (usually 1500 to 5000 lbs) never more. But most of my driving is not towing and I still feel it. This symptom is not always present but has me worried what it might be. I bought truck used with 78k miles on it and it now has 96k. Previous owner had tranny serviced at 60k but I have not yet had had tranny serviced or belts adjusted. I also have never serviced either front or rear differentials (which I planned to do very soon). Is it possible changing the rear fluid could solve the problem? Or is it more likely something has broke or misaligned? Both drive shaft universal joints looked ok to the tech that just changed my rear brakes. I read elsewhere these vehicles where plagued with clips breaking in the rear end? Any thoughts on what this binding sensation (not a grinding sound) might be?

I am not a technician so will be taking this to a pro. Not sure who to trust. I've considered my local Dodge dealer but would also consider an independent if I knew they were qualified. Would a transmission shop be my best bet to get qualified and familiar techs with tranny and drive line components? Any thoughts guys would help a lot. Thanks.

Sounds like you have the limited slip diff. Sometimes they also develop a "chatter" that feels like binding and releasing. New 140 weight oil will help with that.

Dodge calls for lighter oil and no additive, but some of us has switched to the 140. Try it.

Trying to lock up is a normal part of the LS diff operation. It can't really lock, but it can add resistance to differential axle speeds.

Using Amsoil 75-90 with additive, no more chattering/binding.
