Anyone here that has converted:

What all axles can I use? My truck is 2wd. If I steal a axle out of a newer dodge will the springs mount? What did you do about brake lines.

I want to convert to duals and put a flatbad on my 91.5.

 

the p.o did the conversion on mine. the axle is out of a 84 w350 tow truck i believe, at least thats what came up when the numbers were ran. you can use most 70's i believe, but look for a 70hd if you can find it. if i could do it over id skip the 70 for sure and find a 80, i don't know how the disc brake version works with our trucks and the front rims. minor fab work, shorter driveline, shock mounts, brake lines. if you wanted to go a slick route steal the leaf springs off a 99-02 3500 and put them on, ride much better. 14 bolt is good also, much cheaper than an 80. Now, there are many versions of the dana 70, some guys kill them with regularity, some guys make them last. I think they are fine if your nice too them.

 

I made 3/4" thick spacers and installed longer wheel studs when I did my 93. Had to use the spacers so the Budd wheels cleared the stock leaf springs. Heck of a lot cheaper than swapping axles.
