dually to SRW conversion

Hi,
I currently have a 03 3500 Dually. Since i dont do much towing during the summer I was wondering if I could simply turn it into a Single rear wheel type truck simply by taking off the fenders, wheels and hub adapters and slapping a pair of factory 3500 SRW wheels on it. Neither Dodge, the dealer or the dealer body shop knew if i could or couldnt

Re:dually to SRW conversion

A friend of mine has a 99 3500 DRW and he has a set of aftermarket rims that he has on 90% of the time with no problems. He leaves the fenders on.

I think it can be done with no problems, but I do not think the rear wheels will line up with the fronts.

I think it was Timtoolmantaylor that posted a pic of this on the other site awhile ago.
It seems that lurking under those pretty wheelboxes, is some of the ugliest cuts in sheetmetal known to man, where the fenders were carved up for clearance so's the dually tires wouldn't rub, and the filler neck would reach.
Then there's the matter of the fuel filler, and the lights, and the adapters on the front wheels, etc, etc, etc,.....it's ALOT of work to try to convert.

Edit:found the pic, It was posted by RADdodge.

Were I you. I'd find someone, probably via this forum, that wants to go to a dually set up. I'd trade, even up, the entire assembly to include the entire bed.

Then all you'll have to do is get it painted to match.

Gary

Re:dually to SRW conversion

i've seen guys run dually's with a single dually rim and leave the fenders on and then when you tow put the other two wheels back on. that way you can save tire wear and tear. I've had to run a single on the rear in pinch and all you do is run it like thye outside dual
Re:dually to SRW conversion

What's wrong with just leaving both wheels and fenders intact and driving it? The new duallys ride very nice for a 1-ton and you won't get a better ride by going to a single in the rear. I don't know, but seems like a lot of work for nothing.
??? ??? ??? ???

Also, I would have a dually if I didn't drive in the snow so much.
