Dually to SRW conversion?

I am about to convert from a powerstroke to the new cummins. I always have driven a single rear wheel 4x4. I cannot find a SRW with the options I want at the price I am willing to pay. I have found a great deal on a dually with the options I want. Can I purchase new hubs for the front (take off the extended dually hubs) and make a single rear wheel out of it. I usually put on aftermarket wheels anyway and I am going to put a flat bed on it so the bed wouldnt be a problem. Come resale time I could put the dually hubs, wheels, and bed back on and up the resale over a SRW. Anyone have experiance with this type of conversion?

Where are you located. I'm considering converting my SRW 3500 into a Dually. It would make for a fun weekend. Just pick a truck that is Patriot Blue.

Yeah, where are you at? Do you have a long bed or short bed? And your truck is silver like mine right?

I am really not interested in swapping....thanks for the offer though. I want to keep the parts to put it back to a dually for resale. I just need to know what it would take to convert the dually to a single. I know wheels and bed, but I have that handled. I need to know are the rear axles the same width? There is a spacer made on the front hub of the dually, can I just purchase new single wheeel hubs and put on the front axle? Is the front axle the same other than the hub/spacers? Thanks for any addvice/help you can give.

Been done several times a while back with posts on the TDR site.Wasn't that big of a to do.More of a spacers and wheels thing then anything if I remember right.Body shop even redid the same bed easier and cheaper then another one. Sure you really want a flat bed SRW?

The front axles are the same, but the rear axle on the DRW is slightly wider than a SRW axle. Since you are putting a flatbed on you may not notice, but if you were using a SRW bed the rear tires would stick out just a little. Good luck

Old thread but here is my theory, tell me what you think. Can you change the front hubs and maybe put spacers on to match the total width of the rear dually axle. Then wheels with the right backspace to set in a little. I am wanting to make my dually a single.

More than likely you are not going to find wheels with that right backspacing taht you would need, so you probaly need a one off set of wheels. The rear end on a dually is like 4-5 inches wider (2-2.5" on each side)

You would need front hubs.
A bed.
And a rear end.
