Dually conversion?

My 93 4x4 has the 60 front and dana 70 rear single wheel. I was just given a front and rear dually axles from a 79 chevy 1 ton. I would like to put the dually hubs on my axles as I do not want the 4:56 gearing the chevy stuff is carrying. So my question is, what do I need to do here? will the rear spindles unbolt like the front? Anyone have some facts they care to share? Thanks.

The front hubs are the same and should interchange but I believe that the rear chevy hubs use bigger bearings and are not interchangble with our axle, I know that the brakes are different. Let us know how it turns out. Danny

Re:Dually conversion?

There is a thread about making it a 4x4 that goes into putting dually wheels on a 3/4 ton truck. The rear spindles are swaged and welded to the housing. They are different for the SRW version -- apparently, for the dodge at least, the inner SRW wheel bearing is larger while the dually has two bearings that are the same, and a longer spindle (so the bearings are farther apart).

Good luck.

Actually the inner bearing on the dually is quite a bit larger than the outer as for spacing between the two I am not sure. At least on mine this is the case and it is the original rear end.

Re:Dually conversion?

The inner bearing on the 2500 is very slightly smaller than the inner bearing of the 3500. As was mentioned the spindels are shorter on the 2500. The front only needs the adaptors to mount the dual wheels. The dually hubs are not going to fit the 2500 Dodge housing. I do not know this but you might be able to put the dodge gears in the chev housing and install the chev housing on the dodge.
