Hey guys. Tried to put on my window visor deals using the window seals as a friction to assist holding them in and my seals are trashed. I remember replacing them back in 2006 if my memory holds true. Changed the window and door seals. I believe I got them from jcwhitney as a kit, but can't find any documentation of part numbers. I know some of you have probably been there done that and know the best make for our trucks. If so, can you shoot me a link and part numbers as to who makes a quality door and window seal kit for a standard cab? Tried looking thru rock auto and Whitney but man, there are bunches of individual seals with varying prices. I understand you get what you pay for and I'm all good with putting quality seals on my rig, but I also understand a higher price doesn't mean those are the best ones either

Stay away from the Fairchild window sweeps...They are JUNK!!!

They use standard metal clips on the window sweeps, as opposed to the proper spring steel the clips should be made out of. So when you go to install them, and they bend a little bit to get into place, they will not stay in place when you roll the window up and down.

Might not happen right away...but it will happen and you will be PI$$ED!!!

I bought the kit from JC Whitney a few years ago...and they were very good quality. More then likely the LMC stuff is better quality then the Fairchild stuff. But regardless of who I buy these from in the future...I will be calling and asking to make sure they are not from Fairchild.

 

^^Agreed. Happened to me too and it is indeed very aggravating. Best part is the daily reminder every time you open/close the window.

 

All I can find on ebay are the wing window seals for the older trucks.

 

They work, but you have to modify the seals to fit properly. I used the older truck ebay ones on my truck and they're okay. The issue you'll run into is the holes are different for the pivot posts, and the seal needs a bit of trimming to work with our trucks. My seals don't close unless I step out the locks with 3 silver coins, but then they're air / water tight. Compromise, I guess.

I have the seals from Rock auto, and they worked great. No major issues to complain of.

 

So are you saying you had to shim out the latch after replacing the seals?

 

For what it is worth, the piece that goes across the bottom of the main door glass is called a "belt weatherstrip"

The piece that surrounds the main door glass is a "channel".

I got parts from JCWhitney to replace the belt weatherstrip and channel on my F350 and the wife's D250 seven or eight years ago and they look almost as new today as they did when first installed.

As best I remember, the belts were sold separately from the channels; it seems like maybe I had to order a RIGHT and a LEFT belt, and the channels came both sides together.

The seals were new, but less "pliable" than the oem units. Because of this, they put a lot of pressure against the glass when closed. this forced the "slightly worn latch" to bend backwards, causing gaps between the seal and glass. Do you like whistling noises when you drive ?

Well, 3 coins and no noise, and no water. Good enough for me.

Well no I don't like the wind noise but I also like to be able to open and close them. Fumbling around with 3 coins while driving isn't going to cut it.

 

If you come up with a better solution, please post it here, as the OEM units for my 92 are like the dodo bird....which apparently is happening to all of the parts, from chrysler, for our trucks.

for now, I have quiet and leak free windows.... and if I ever need a quarter, a dime and nickel for a phone call, or to pay a toll, or even to hand out to the local bum with his squeegee, I'm set to go..

 

You must have higher class bums than we do here. ours make whoopee and poopie on the lawn and the women run around half naked at the county government center.
