Door panel inserts.

Has anyone ever pulled the door panel carpet off the bottom? If
so how is it connected to the door panel? Also the same with the upper panel. How is it connected?

Bottom is glued on the top is done with plastic rivets. If you look In my build thread you can see where I took it apart and what fastners I used to put it back together

I had kinda looked through and seen that on your thread. I'm trying to figure out the best way to do the door panels. I'm kinda thinking about just taking them to a lady I know that does upholstery. Im kind thinking I'm just gonna pull the top panel and bottom carpet completely off and have her build new ones out of fiberboard or whatever they use to make panels and attach them however they want as long as I can't see any screws. I have the material already for the panels. Just not much for an upholstery guy. I'm gonna have her make panels that go in the recess in the rear door panels also and then have her make a panel that goes from the bottom of the door panel down to the bottom of the door. That way the front and back should match pretty close.

I have been thinking of making my own and upholstering them like that. maybe a two tone design of some sort. I really think It would work in our traditional looking trucks. even tuck and roll would work.

I had an idea to remove the upper insert and replace it with a thin gauge sheet of aluminum or something. Maybe one day I'll get around to it .

. Should be able to use the fibreboard and have it recovered. That way you don't have to redo the notched holes. I'll post a picture a below so you can see what I mean.

Someone had done that with diamond plate. Looked pretty good.

If my door panels were not in such good shape I would make a pair out of 1/4" aluminum diamond plate from top to bottom like on a fire truck.

I have also entertained the idea to install a sheet of lexan or Duck Armor behind the panel to make my cab more bullet resistant for my treks through the inter-city.
