Door Panel, plastic rivets???

I got the bright idea that I was going to paint my dash today. So... there are these plastic rivits on the door panel holding the carpeted pieces on. Anyone ever taken these off before and just replaced them with screws??? Any other options?

Matt, those are called "christmas trees" if memory serves me right. You should be able to go to any decent auto parts store and get replacements.

Those are reusable , just punch the center pin out the other side and save the pins , you can then remove the rivet , they are kinda neat , I use them on my grill.

I think I gave the wrong signal, they don't hold the panel on to the door itself (I only broke one this time taking it off ), they hold the carpeted pieces onto the door panels. I think I figured out what they are, they are molded into the door as hollow "spikes", then they lay the carpeted piece over the "spikes" and they take a hot tool to melt the plastic down to look like rivits. They are pretty cool, you can see some spots where the assembler marked the plastic up with the tool. I just pried them out and am going to use screws to put the carpet back on.

The dash is a B#### to take out I've got just about everything unbolted, but can't find my torx bit so I gave up for the night I have a blue interior and I am getting sick of it, so I am painting it the beige color, and taking the blue carpet out of the doors and using black felt I should finish tomorrow, hopefully! It SHOULD look really cool if it gets done right, so much for 2 cans of krylon fusion being enough, I used one on both the doors alone I appreciate the suggestions, though guys....
