Dealing with Uhaul?
Hey all,
How do you guys deal with uhaul? I called them and apparently my truck is inadequate to pull a 4500lb vehicle. They recommended a 1500 GMC that they had for rent, which was about 1$ per mile. Further investigation showed that our trucks are just to darn old and perhaps a liability to them? It's all computer driven so no point in arguing with the man.
Might be time to buy a trailer! The hitch I have is a 7500lb so I assumed that they would allow the W250 to have at it. Plan b

I have never had a problem with them, maybe try a different store. Sounds like they just want to rent you a truck.
Did you go online and reserve everything? They ask a bunch of questions about what is going to pull the trailer, maybe the yo yo's at the store don't have a clue.

Called a different store and I'm good to go. The trailer is 2200lbs and the suv I'm pulling is 4500lbs which equals about the weight of my truck. It does have electric brakes so hopefully I wired it in properly last night. The hitch I got was a Reese and the wiring was literally plug and play. No splicing or anything, very nice setup.

I had the same issues years ago when pulling home a 48 Desoto with the crewcab. I had to argue with them before they would finally "allow" me to use their trailer....was a major pain in the butt.
So much happier now that I have my own trailer....money well spent IMO.

Something very similar happened to me, but not from U haul. I was younger and dumber when I tried to rent a trailer from a no-name agency in order to move a car to my new home. They did the same, said my hitch was no good and they rented me a pickup. When I returned it, I had already filled it up, but they charged me for fuel and also charged me a lot more than quoted. When I refused to pay, they called the police. I ended up paying, but I called an ex-girlfriend that worked for the State attorneys office. Turned out that they were already on their radar and my case helped push them to shut down the crooks. I never got back any money, but I got a few bucks worth of satisfaction ...Mark

I always just tell them its a different trim truck I ran into the same problem a couple years ago and indicated it was a 4x4 1 ton truck they don't check most of the time its all computer driven so if you call tell them your using a 1 ton.

Before I got my flatbed I always said I was towing a ford ranger.
Course this was before I had my D250 also but that's not important as my army truck was even older.

Those people are idiots. I needed to move an all wheel drive car and they wanted to give me a car dolly. "Well that's what our computer says". Went to another place and they gave what I asked for, no questions. When I had to move the 92, I rented an equipment trailer from another company, the same one I used when I drug a 93 dually home with the 91.

"Those people are idiots" I find myself saying that quite often these days.

U haul said my dodge was not capable of pulling a trailer which has a Honda CRV on it, so I went elsewhere
