Hey all, I want to remove the entire dash from my truck and paint it black. I bought some duplicolor vinyl and plastic paint. How hard is this to do? My thought was to sand it down with some very fine sand paper (2000 grit) and then put a few coats of this paint on it. The door panels were easy enough to remove. I have the gauges out and the wooden panel.

The windshield has to come out. It's a pretty big job.

 

Maybe I'll mask it from the inside and do it that way without removing it. The truck will be black outside and black inside. Kind of what I'm looking to do, I'm photoshoping the truck to see if I like the flat black or a gloss.

 

Good luck with the painting of the interior pieces. I tried that before and it all ended up pealing off and couldnt take the heat. That was 6-7 years ago, but I decided if I ever had to change color again it would be with something that was from the factory.

As far as color goes, I would probably go with a flat or just a non gloss paint. Might be hard to see with the glossy paint when the sun is a glaring off the dash while driving down the road. JMO

 

Well it depends on the paint. The color from the factory is black underneath. They they use to dip it in plastidip. I'm going to sand mine and just use that duplicolor stuff. It's suppose to expand and shrink with the material in hot and cold weather. I've heard it works really well, so we'll see.

Yeah definitely not going gloss, I'm doing a faded black. I'll post pictures of the progress.

Cseby, do you have more pics from the removal?? It doesn't seem all that bad judging by the pics you posted. More time consuming than anything.

 

you can see i cut the windshield gasket to get to the top screws at bottom of windshield.i'm replacing the gasket and didn't want to take the windshield out right away.dash must go in before windshield.dash is still out if you want a picture of the back side or anything.

 

The guy that painted my interior said ivf you use an "adhesion promoter" the stuff won't peel

 

Cseby, where did you get your windshield gasket? I'm having trouble finding a source aftermarket.

 

to paint my interior plastic i used:DuPont Vinyl Color,it was the "bordeaux" chrysler color.i ordered a quart (and it took a quart).never asked the price,it was $144.00 a quart.will never do that again!
