cruise control inop

I have a 92 W250, auto trans. My cruise control finally quit working. It was intermittent and then finally quit altogether. Everything else works except the odometer but I think that is broken gears in the speedometer. Any suggestions. I did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for.

If the horn was out then it would be an easy fix by getting a new clockspring from the dealer. Since the horn still works, have you checked the speed control fuse? Swiches on the steering column can go bad, too. I would check all the easy things like fuses, vac lines, power to the switches and the cruise control cable actuator at the drivers side. It's the canister looking thing next to the battery and mounted on the wheel well. It has vac line going to it. Get the FSM for your truck.

check for power to the vacuum actuator. Check for if there is power to the cruise control switches on the steering wheel if the actuator checks OK. If that is no worky (switches) then the switches may be bad. Check for power to those next. If switches are good, then your clockspring is bad. $165.00 from the dealer, or a few bucks from the junkyard. One more thing , check the brake pedal stop switch for adjustment. To properly perform these checks, you will have to invest in the shop manual which is available from Geno's Garage for around $80.00. Hope this helps.
