Yes it does.

Check the fuse, Check for power at the switches,

I belive theres something called a clockspring in your column that may have went bad.

Thanks, I'll check that first. What is the clockspring and what does it do?

The clockspring gets power to and from the cruise switches and the horn. It's located right under the steering wheel.

Thanks. That gives me a good starting point. The problem has been intermittent for about a week or two and now the cruise just won't work at all.

Sounds like switches or the clockspring. There's a continuity chart for the switches in the sticky.

Just wait till you've had a clockspring go BOING and tangle itself up, and then you get to fight the wheel! It's a bit harrowing at speed.

Could a pseudo-VSS signal be obtained from a tach pickup on the alternator, as was used with the old AutoMeter tach kits? The pickup was similar to the pickups used for recording conversations from your telephone(just a 500-ohm coil with a suction cup) which I once used on an old truck I had and wanted to install a cruise kit(two magnets on the output yoke of the old SM420 and the pickup coil on a bracket 1/8" away). Then I tried six magnets at the vibration damper: instant controllable fast-idle on a GMC V6.
