Couple wierd fueling and idling issues
Alright well I indexed the throttle back a spline, it made a little bit of difference in how high it revs. I still have the same issues though, just a hundred rpm less than before. It will idle good cold tell warm, until i nudge the throttle, than it will increase 300 rpm. Should I index it once more?
Well its definitely NOT the throttle index, i've tried every position to no avail. So I can eliminate that as being the problem.
Anyone else have any suggestions?
When I start the truck in the morning, it idles fine "right where I set it" as soon as I move the throttle even a millimetre it jumps at least 300 rpm. When I put it into drive it drops back down to its set idle. Every so often when its warm, I can go from drive to neutral, or park and it will keep idling fine.......that is until I nudge the throttle, than away it goes again.
Any advice would be great.

Where abouts is the bellcrank?
I know for sure nothing around the throttle is sticking, i've seen these jumps in rpm as i was playing with the throttle from the fuel pump not the gas pedal as well, so I know for sure nothing is sticking.
I dont think it would idle down once it was in gear if something was sticking neither.
Are you guys sure it wasn't something i messed up when I took the pump top off and exposed the governor spring? Because it didn't act like it is now before i took it off...
It did act a bit strange but no where near as bad as it is now.

I agree w/ wannadiesel. If adjustments didn't work, you might want to dig deeper. That little top hat almost got away from me when I did mine. If it weren't for the pics in the sticky, I might not have got it back together right. I'd pull the pump apart one more time and check it out to be sure.
Hmmm, I'd imagine the spring that is infront of the top hat is the idle spring?
If so thanks, because you guys just figured out my problem.....
I dont remember putting that spring back in there, heck I dont even remember taking it out. I was pretty nervous about taking my pump apart, I must have lost track of it. Which means its long gone.
So for my next question.....is that idle spring pretty soft, or fairly stiff? Im gonna have to find something to replace it, because I doubt cummins will stock anything like it....
Thanks for all the help guys, if I could send beer in the mail I would!

The idle spring is very soft.
If you look at the exploded VE pump diagram in the sticky, you will find the part number. Whoever got you your 3200 RPM spring can get you a new idle spring.

Sweet deal, I went to NW injection in Surrey. Right near my place and they had a used idle spring they gave me.
Thanks for all the help guys, i've said it before i'll say it again

Right on
Well I took apart the pump again. Went A LOT smoother than before, got the idle spring in, indexed my throttle for max rpm and set the idle. No more issues at all! Biggo grin on my face now
Next up is the piston pump and some gauges.
Than once my budget allows, a set of 6x014 injectors and an S300
Thanks a bunch for the help

When I did mine, the top hat kinda flew. I mean it was like p-tink....... uh-oh! I stayed on my knees awhile thanking God for finding it. Any way, glad you're up and running again.

Glad to hear you got it working, this one had me puzzled until you mentioned that you left out parts.
