cooling fan ideas and a/c cooling

Im pretty sure the fan clutch isnt up to snuff, but I also noticed that the A/C pressure get way high without the airflow over the condenser. I hooked up gauges and saw 450 psi pressure so I grabbed a cheap house fan and blew air across it and walla 240 psi. Now the fan clutch wont engage until the temps lock in the clutch, but if its not pulling hot air from the condenser over it it wont lock on the clutch and you get extreme A/C pressure. Theres mot much roon for a electric fan in the front, but has anyone ever used a electric unit as the primary and had it kick on when the A/C comes on?

Thanks,

wallace

If it makes you feel any better mine does the same thing and last year the pop off on the compressor blew off. I think that I am just going to add a small fan to keep temps down. I believe that there is a replacement made but it is pretty spendy. Someone will chime in with who has it. Good luck.

One of the guys here at work is putting a dual electric fan set-up in his 96 CTD.
He got the fan from a junkyard....he won't be done for a couple weeks though....not a priority project for him.

None of the electric fan manufacturers that I looked into when converting to the later cooling system recommend using an electric as your primary fan in a heavy duty application. Even though busses use them. I had a couple guys recommend A Horton to me, but pricey. I wouldn't rely on the electric without a few extra gauges.
