Can someone confirm by looking at this that its a he351cw, he claims its of a 04.5 cummins. But I not sure how to tell the 341 apart from the 351.

Hard to tell if it's a 341 without measuring it. I believe the inducer for a 351 is 60mm.

I bought one for $300 that only had a little wiggle. When I took it apart the turbine journal was scored and gouged. Probably coked oil... figured the brass bearing would have taken it more, but the journal itself was screwed too. So even a little end play is hard to determine good vs. bad.

They do make rebuild kits for them though... uhhh... happened to have one next to the couch!

Is this the part number for the turbo or the rebuild kit?

Ya I like ksl, I can't belive its that cheap. I live in spanish fork ut and this guy was up in wyoming somewhere but he was way good about shipping it to me. It only cost 16 bucks. Also I think it is a 351 too I have been looking at 341s on the internet and I don't think they do have the cyloinoid with the wires coming out of it

Correct, the HE341 was not electronically controlled.

I also lurk the KSL classifieds, but usually the items are a long haul from me.

your main concern is the shaft play, ive got 4 of these, 1 is a paper weight, i rebuilt for a good amount of money, the other 2 were good, the turbo over revs itself, causing rapid bearing wear, some probably succumb to hot shut down, the small exhaust housing gives a very quick spool. if the shaft is loose, you will see interference of thecomp wheel to the compressor housing, and turbine shaft to the exh. housing, even a new shaft at 200. wont result in the same performance, because of the excess clearance, ive seen a bunch that were run "loose" and were not rebuildable, good for extra parts though, the comp hx40 wheel can be found for 60. and a bearing kit for about the same, the hy35 bearing kit is also the same as i remember, so take care in lookig for damage to the exhaust wheel/shaft, that could be a budget breaker, if you need, i can give a parts resource.

Well the turbo showed up in the mail yesterday and surprisingly its actually in pretty good shape, it has very minimal shaft play and I can not see any spots where the wheels have rubbed on the housings when I tore it down. I think I may order the rebuild kit from diesel auto power for 90 bucks and put it in just for peace of mind but overall I don't think its bad for 100 bucks
