Cold Starting

What kind of products are out there for cold weather starts, other than 110v block heaters. I am tranfering to BSU, Boise State U., in January and block heater plug-in's are not offered in the dorm parking lots. I hear it can get kind of cold there and I don't want to put my CTD through any more tortrue than I have to. Thanks for the info.

Re:Cold Starting

I actually had my college install a special outlet for me next to a parking lot so I could plug my Jeep in (I had to run a 100' cord to get to the Jeep from the outlet, but it worked.) Did you talk to the facilities manager? You might be surprised.

It's funny, I went back a couple years later and they had moved the recycling shed that had the outlet for me about fifty feet and turned it around -- but it still had the outlet !

Re:Cold Starting

No I haven't talked to the maintaince people about getting a plug in but when I get there I will. Heck I might just run a cord out of my dorm window to my CTD, if I can get away with it. Has anyone tried this diesel burning heater? If so how much does it cost and does it work well?

Re:Cold Starting

how cold does it get? I have never pluged my truck in even when Iwent to school up in northern Ohio. Out of all the trucks I own the 93 starts a lot better than the rest.

Re:Cold Starting

I don't know how cold it gets, all I know is that I was told that it gets cold there. Can any of you DTR members help me out with that bit of info? My dad told me not to worry about the cold weather, he's got cranes with 6BT's that work in AK and never have trouble starting in cold weather. Has anyone that lives in a cooler climate had trouble with cold starts?

Re:Cold Starting

Yeah, it gets cold there. (Shiver me timbers). If you want to get a better idea of what to expect go to Boise's homepage and email them. http://www.cityofboise.org/

Don't have any input about cold starting in that kind of weather.
