cold starting
cold starting
My truck has been starting really hard, and sometimes not at all. The batteries are brand new. It seems like the grid heater is not working. is there a way to sheck it? also the other morning I had my truck pluged in and it started the sam as before without being pluged in. [undecided] ???
Re:cold starting
If the battery voltage is not being pulled down by the start cycles, then the grids aren't working.

Depending on the temperature, and how long you plug the block heater in for, the heater might not make much difference starting the truck if the grids aren't working.

However, you might have a timing (injection pump) or valve adjustment problem.

Excessively retarded engines are hard to start.

Good luck!

dodgeman01

The Haynes manual has pretty good instructions on checking the whole grid heater system. All you need is a multi-meter. I just went through mine and ended up replacing the relays under the battery. (one was bad but you gotta buy both together :
)

Have you checked your fuel hoses? Maybe you're getting some air in the system. How's the shut down solenoid? Good luck with it.
