cold starting question

hey guys.

ive been experiencing some hard starting lately in the cold. i cycle the grid heater a few times, and it still wont start. its not engaging the fuel shutoff soleniod. is this because its not getting warm enough in there, or is the fuel shutoff solenoid just shot?

to get the truck started,
i have just been turning the key on, and poping the hood, and manually engaging the solenoid. although when its warm, i dont have to do this, it just starts by itself.

thanks.

Re:cold starting question

What color is the exhaust when you first start it like this? Are you seeing a lot of white smoke? If so, you may have a grid heater going bad on you.

Re:cold starting question

Sounds like either the solenoid or relay is gone. Try a search and I think you'll find test procedure. Remember seeing a post on it awhile back.
Even at zero up here, I don't have to cycle grid heater more than twice to get it to start.

Bill
