Cold Starting Question

We had our 1st cool morning here in East Texas with a low of around 38 degrees, so I went out to crank my ride to give it time to warm up before leaving for work. I turned the key on, waited for the "wait to start" light to go out, and when it went off, I heard a pretty loud pop. I was hesitant to crank the truck, but it was my only ride to work, so I turned the beast over. The truck cranked & Idled normally, but I noticed that the sound of the engine would change frequently and the dome light would dim (the door was open). It was similar to when the AC compressor kicks on, but seemed a much greater load/strain on the engine as it cycled. Eventually, the frequency decreased until the cycling of whatever was happening stopped which lasted about 2 to 3 minutes overall.

My question is, was the drawing of current from the glow plugs still cycling on and off with the engine running? And if so, is this normal. Sorry if this is a dumb question. I am a 1st time diesel owner, so I wanted to make sure nothing needs attention.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

This might help: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=117962

It's completely normal for the cycling.

As for the "pop" sound you heard?? Not too sure.

There's a very good explanation for the lack of mentioned groundhog.

Mine have been going hog wild for about two weeks... It's always a shock the first couple of days of colder weather.
