cleaning injectors
ok so i was doing my injector swap and got to thinking about the stockers. i noticed they only had 100,000 miles on them since the last time the dealership changed them and the pump on the recall, so my question is
how often should these just be pulled and cleaned with a wire brush, i mean the tips had chunks of carbon on them, i cleaned them ( i had no core charge) and was wandering how much of a problem could this be, i mean i couldnt even see the holes

Btw, my local diesel pump shop guys told me to NEVER use a steel wire brush. Always use a softer one like brass etc... Just a side note I thought I'd share. The steel is too abrasive for something that is machined with such tight tolerances.
I soaked the tips in a pool of brake clean and then used a wore-out finish-prep abrasive cookie on a die grinder running about 1/4 speed with very light pressure. Crud came off with little effort and the tips polished to a nice shine

Don't be too quick to blame the injectors EVERY type of diesel i've ever owned took a several MPG hit on winter fuel.
