Charge Air Temperature

O.K. I was out and about all over California the past few weeks towing my 24' tag along trailer with various cars inside (total trailer weight around 10K).
Very happy with my Rig, and the mileage was pretty good. Now, I saw 1200 degrees a couple times on long grades, never any more. Imagine my surprise when I checked the oil and found the paint on the intercooler inlet tube (from the Turbo to the Intercooler) fried to a crisp. I know I am on the ragged edge with the Turbo I have. it produces 30psi max, and has no trouble getting there. So anyone have any real information on just how hot the air charge can get? Nothing is hurt, it still runs fine, NO PROBLEMS. Just thought it was interesting.

I remember reading that someone with a non i/c truck was showing at or above 600 degrees. He was running way out of the map range of the turbo. Can't believe everything you read though.

Oh I know it can get hot, I ran Turbocharged Colts a thousand years ago. I'm looking for "how hot is within range" I suppose I will have to hook up an extra Pyro and see. I was just surprised to see how catastrophic the paint failure was. I guess the Banks stuff that had been on there for 20 years was pretty tough!
See what happens when you try to "pretty it up"!
