How do i get the cam gear off so i pull off the front case? its on a 1992. I think its just pressed on but want to make sure instead of damaging good parts.

 

Yes it is a press on. I had mine out of the truck so we used a press to remove/install. I assume there is some kind of puller you could get that could do it on the truck.

 

You will need to heat the gear to press it back on. Make sure you do not push the cam back when you reinstall the gear or you will get to drop the trans and pull the bellhousing adapter to replace the core plug at the back of the cam bore...

 

I ain't reinstalling the cam just partin out the engine. i try a 3 arm puller so see if that'll do the trick.

 

If you are just parting out the engine turn it over and pull the whole cam out, that way you don't have to mess with the dowel rods to hold the lifters up out of the way, providing you have either the head off or the valve train off. Then you can press the gear off without busting your puller!
