Lightbulb Broken v-band

Ok well i went to move the truck out of the garage tonight... and noticed that the v-band between the exhaust housing and oil chamber had snapped!!! so i dug around a few boxes with all kinds of different clamps and v-bands and nothing... so i decided to replace the t-bolt... got it all replaced and it was too short Then the mcgiver in me set in and i decided to cut the clamp (where the bolt and retainer are folded over and pinch welded to its self). After i did this i got a heavy duty worm type hose clamp off the intake filter and used this to secure the v-band. This temporarily fixed my problem... wish i had pictures... the camera still haunts me. Need to mention this is on a he351cw turbo... normal 1st gen turbos are bolted together here

Does anybody know where i could get a replacement for this clamp? It seems to be an odd size and the PN stamped on it doesn't help me...
Thanks!

That happened to mine as well. It is a common problem - check the 3rd gen forum. They break because they're over-torqued. they don't take anything more than 20 INCH lbs of torque, after that, you'll break it. (I broke mine before installing the turbo, was reclocking the thing)

You should remove the turbo and inspect the Exhaust Turbine. There is a good chance it is now ruined. Shaft might be bent as well.

The clamp is available from cummins. It is a standard R.G. Ray piece...

PS the PN stamped on it should be the Cummins #

Thanks. I must have copied the # incorrectly. I hope the turbo is fine. I haven't fired it before last night(i noticed this as i was cleaning things from my engine bay).

Cummins dealers have them. They cost about $35. I broke my buddies while we were installing his twins on his 04. They snap VERY easily.

The clamp has the in-lb torque spec stamped on it if there are any doubts... all others considering this turbo should be aware of this.

yeah i saw the in-lb spec when i ripped the busted one off... the **** pneumatic ratchet is something like 120 ft-lbs.... oops I guess its one of those things that always break when you do them in a hurry.

Thanks for the quick feedback i'll be sure to have one before i start making any real boost. I think the modified v-band/worm clamp will work for putting around the yard.

that sucks man, I luckily never snapped mine when i reclocked my he351 and put it on. When i took my hy35 off though and took it apart, i went to loosen that clamp off and it snapped just like that. I think the heating and cooling is hard on them also and weakens them.

PAPE in your picture you have the "torque elbow" on there, how come you didn't use this in your install?? My reasoning was it didn't come with it and i was too cheap to buy one separate. Didn't even bother looking into clearance issues.

Oh that elbow thing? Well I fit checked it , I also have the 3rd gen DP and flange. It was just easier to buy a Rip Rook DP and adapter, the Elbow doesn't curve tight enough to fit well...

I know this is different, but I broke a t-bolt clamp on my intake while LOOSENING it! jeez. That's what I get for buying it from NAPA.

I though there was some reason you didn't use it.

Yeah those nuts are just torture on the bolt. I was thinking about getting two standard nuts and choking them so they don't loosen.
