I have a leaking front output shaft seal and a REALLY BAD leaking rear output shaft seal on the transfer case.

I just want to know if anyone can tell me where I can get the seals and a little rundown of how to replace these suckers.


The brake related question is simple. My brake fluid in the front reservoir has been doing this vanishing act for quite some time. All I want to know is if the front reservoir is for the front brakes? and seeing as how I can't see any leaking brake fluid leaks anywhere on the truck. Anybody have any suggestions on what my problem might be?
My front brakes just started a new problem too. I have to pump the pedal once for the brakes to grab properly. Once they grab, it's fine though.

i'm having the same brake problem. Although i can see where the fluid is leaking from. For me its the master cylinder and i'm going to replace it.

 

the larger resivoir is for the front brakes. I had a rear wheel cylinder leaking that completely saturated my brakes but never leaked out on to the tires of ground.

 

ok then it's leaking from the rear brake reservoir (which is actually the front reservoir on the MC?). Which makes even less sense because I'm 99% sure my rear brakes aren't leaking anywhere. I just overhauled my rear brakes last March. Did it all and I've had the rear drums off since then and nothing was leaking inside. For that, I guess I'll just have to investigate more.

 

I got both transfer case seals from Dodge. They weren't too bad for price.
ps: There is also a rubber ring type seal on the inside of the yoke to seal the yoke to shaft. may need that too.
Just remove the nut and the yoke should tap off with a hammer and bar against the yoke ear.

Maybe I'll try dodge monday then. Nowhere else in town has the seals anyways. If the prices aren't too bad I'll end up going that route. and thanks for the info too. I appreciate that.

 

You can also lose fluid out of the master straight into the booster and never see it.

 

I just did my front and rear output shaft seals and it was very easy. I would recommend a seal puller tool. They are cheap and made all the difference. You will need a very large socket to remove the yoke. I don't remember but I think it was close to 1 1/4. I got my seals from car quest and they were cheap. Mine had been leaking for a while so it was very messy down there. Good lucky.
