Need new transfer case questions?

My front driveshaft bolts were loose and then sheared off the other day, the driveshaft then smashed into my transfercase and put a huge hole in it, so i'm looking for a used one. I've got a 96' diesel 2500 with a NV 244DLD case, i found a gas 2500 t-case with a part # 244DHD, what's the diiference? I also found a 2003-2005 Dodge diesel 2500 case, will that fit? oh yeah, I've got an auto.

you mean 241DLD not 244DLD ? the transfer case you want is the 241DHD it is the heavy duty unit it has a one peice taillshaft housing, bigger chain and bearings. you also have to find one that matches your truck. some have speedo gears and there is a difference in length between one off of an auto and a manual

When I swapped from automatic to NV4500, I also went from a 241DHD to a 241DLD. The HD had a place to mount a PTO the LD did not. The T/case lengths were different and I had to swap the tail housings due to the HD having the speed sensor and the LD did not. Swapping the tail shafts was a piece of cake.

If the hole is only in the case, is there any way you can patch the hole?
Ive used fiberglass / epoxy patches on engine cases with great results in the past.

I will probably weld it back together...

I have welded cases before but was worried that the strength of the case may be weakened. I found a NP271 case, from a 2004 Dodge Diesel. will it fit?
